40 Years of Service
Glenn R. Walters, DDS., Associate Professor in the Department of Endodontics (left) celebrated 40 years of service with The University of Texas Health Science Center. When he was hired, Dr. Walters was solely responsible for the entire endodontic curriculum, and during the early years at the Dental School, he was the acting chairman of the department. "e;I remember fondly that I presented the first endodontic lecture given here, and there were 14 sophomore and 16 freshman students," Dr. Walters said. At that time, the Dental School was located in the basement beneath the Medical School auditorium.
Through the years, he has enjoyed his service at the Health Science Center. "I realize that being able to be a part of a "new" dental school is a unique opportunity to influence the professional education of dentists," he said. "I have tremendous respect for dental students and my dental faculty colleagues."
Dr. Walters is looking forward to teaching for years to come. "I have no plans or desire to retire as long as I continue to enjoy teaching and feel that I can be a contributing member of the Department of Endodontics and the Dental School," he said.
During the Employee Service Award Ceremony held February 24, 2009, Interim President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP (right) presented Dr. Walters with a crystal bowl.
