Research Summary
Research Summary Our research involves investigating the signaling events involved in the regulation of peripheral pain pathways. Our study mainly focuses on the regulation and activation of vanilloid channels such as TRPV1 and TRPA1 in several different pain models including inflammatory, burn as well as chronic pain. Currently, I am also studying regulation of these channels in cancer pain. I am particularly interested in studying the regulation of peripheral nociceptors innervating the tumor cells and investigating the role of certain lipids that are released from cancer cells in activating and/or sensitizing the vanilloid channels. Peripheral block of this activation will potentially reverse cancer-induced allodynia with much less adverse effects. Our laboratory uses techniques like RT-PCR, live-imaging, electrophysiology, ELISAs and radioimmunoassays, microarray analysis, immunostaining, rodent behavior etc.
